Prospects 2002. NY

Elseware will be showing work in an exhibition called Bside through Prospects 2002. NY, the ICFF, International Contemporary Furniture Fair (May 19th - 22nd), official program sponsored in part by Passagen. This year is the first year Passagen has organized an officiate program in New York for ICFF.

What is PASSAGEN in Cologne now and what could PROSPECTS be in New York?

Since 1989 PASSAGEN has been the off program to the International Furniture Fair in Cologne. The program was conceived as a forum for young designers and manufacturers to present their work. For twelve years PASSAGEN has been constantly expanding its program and now has approximately 130 designers, architects, and manufacturers exhibiting. In PASSAGEN, not only through the display of furniture and products, but through a whole supplementary structure of exhibitions and events, new themes in interior design are brought up for discussion. This is further augmented by cultural shows at International institutions such as the Museum of Applied Arts and the Cultural Institute.

Among the 80,000 visitors, meandering through the galleries, salons and furniture showrooms of Cologne's inner city are many international design professionals such as Jasper Morrison, Philippe Stark, Vico Magistretti, Greg Lynn, Ross Lovegrove, and Ingo Maurer, to name a few. The general public, trade visitors, the branch press and the whole international design scene, mingle together. PASSAGEN attracts a crowd interested in design and the PASSAGEN exhibits are widely seen as the most outstanding and interesting presentations.
