American culture has had more than its share of cheesy consumerism. For some reason, products like the Topsy Tail, ceramic Jesus figurines helping kids play soccer and the endless array of late night infommercial exercise equipment have prevailed in our society for a long time and we want to create a show about that phenomenon. We are going to be inspired by, celebrate, satirize, design for, and highlight the fact that much of America loves these kinds of things. The objects we design for the exhibit will do just that. They will talk about that culture in some form or another, whether it is poking fun at it, making a statement about it, celebrating it, or just being inspired by it. All of us in Elseware, and we suspect that many of you, grew up outside of NYC or any other major metropolitan area and experienced first hand that culture. Sometimes it is very difficult to explain exactly what it is that makes something cheesy but we all recognize it and that inherent quality is what we observing and designing around.

Join us for an overwhelming opening reception extravaganza with limited edition silk screened American Cheese full size posters (see below image), sonic cheese slices, Sears portrait studio shots (like in our lovely postcard), shag carpet, wood paneling, wandering mistrels, fantastic american food stuffs, and our end of the night clearance sale! Leave your snobbish design expectations at home but bring yourself, a couple friends, and most importantly: cash!

The reception will continue after 11pm at Daniel Harper's loft space.

take the L and get out at the back of the train if coming from Manhattan (front if coming from Brooklyn) on the Lorimer street stop. Exit the turnstiles near the token booth and go up the stairs, turning right as you go. At street level you'll be on the corner of Metropolitan Ave. and Union streets. Turn left and walk down Metropolitan crossing under the BQE (Brooklyn Queens Expressway). When you get to Marcy Ave. (the first street past the BQE) turn left. The gallery is one block down on the left. Just look for the string of flags flapping patriotically in the wind.
